Internships

There is a wide range of possibilities for an internship at Mearch. Students will get in-house supervision and thesis projects will always be an essential mix of practical work and experience in a real-time office, fieldwork and time to focus on own definced scientific research.

Some examples. Internships can be the management of one of our projects, or a graduation thesis that combines your curriculum with our programme and fieldwork capacities. The approach of your thesis can either be technical, or sociological, antropological or an interdisciplinary combination.

Feel free to sent drafts of your research thesis proposal, to discuss your possibilities at Mearch. We encourage creativity and independency of students.

For a modest financial compensation, MEARCH offers guidance and lodging for students, having research and lodging facilities available on the east-coast.

Some examples of thesis possibilities:

  • social polling of benefitiaries
  • database for relief programmes
  • disaster preparedness
  • emergency mapping
  • open source software in developing programmes
  • gis capacity programme
  • training in one of our courses
  • anthropological impact on field research methodology
  • security risk analysis
  • emergency site survey
Our GIS programme is extended towards an ancient location in the heart of Sri Lanka: UNESCO's monumental Sigiriya, is an excellent location to combine GIS with eco-tourism, archeology, culture and (ancient and today's) irrigation systems, used in both intensive and extensive agriculture.
